We have had a busy spring and summer of face painting. I however ended up with a broken leg in May which put me out of commission for a while. So all blogs, my store, and business and art in general has laid a bit low. Fortunately I was able to add some staff artists and it has been great to have more on board. We at High Jinks Extreme Face and Body Art are now posed better than ever to serve the greater Sacramento area and Northern California with face painting and more. Brrrr, A cold day awaits us today. High Jinks be out painting faces for the Families First Health Fair in Yuba City today. I suppose one may think there is a healthier way for me to spend my day than painting kids on a chilly day. Perhaps, but considering how just a few days of foggy weather here really get to folks. If we can't get the real sunshine then we'll go create it. I am bring some bright colors and have some fun new faces to throw into the mix of my usual face painting designs. So come one out and get painted.

At least it's not raining or snowing! We've painted in that weather too - that can be extreme face painting! We'll take a foggy Yuba City day.

Northern California Premier Face Painter

I had a busy week last week painting with my good friend internationally known artist Mark Reid and vending for the US makeup company Mehron at a recent convention for face painters here in northern California. It's a delight and at bit comical to see new painter be so in awe of my old friend Mark, but he is quite a talent and has worked hard at mastering his craft and achieving world-wide status.

Last year I was busy teaching at this event. This year it was fun to sell makeup and face painting supplies for Mehron and teach so many artists how to use Mehron's great products including the Paradise face painting line and new Mark Reid signature line of glitter gel and brushes. Products I use becausee the are safe for your kids and mine.

All the sharing with painters nationally and internationally helps me bring fun face art to you. I went to paint at a party just days after this event and well the two hours turned to three. I could help wanting to paint the kids perfectly and add designs to arms, legs and of course then do the adults too.

Cheerleader Face Art - Face Painting at Football Games

I can hear in my backyard is the roar of the Friday night local Pirates playing football. We laugh that you always can tell when the high school team is winning.

One thing we at do High Jinks is go out to local games and airbrush tattoos. It's great fun to have a variety of mascot and game related tattoos available to our local high schools. We have helped school raise money using this as a student body or booster club promotion. Airbrush Tattoos are a big hit when schools are playing their big rival. Some opt to offer only their mascot and colors to egg on the visitors some opt to provide both school colors and really get the crowd up for a fun night.

And yes we are always sure to have a special delicate eye design and shimmers and glitter for the cheerleaders.

And we can offer classic face painting and glitter tattoos too!
Our friend Pinky the Clown has been doing glitter tattoos for Sac State and we have supplied her with some fun new football designs. As we cut our own design stencils we can do most any school mascot and have lots of custom football and individual school related designs.

Race for Austism with 51 Fifty Carlos Vieira Racing

Hey< hey we will be out to do our thing with airbrush tattoos and perhaps hummmm...... face painting at the 2nd Annual Race and Ride for Autism. This Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the New Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton will be a day of racing to raise money and awareness for Autism. Carlos Vieira
Racing and Team 51FIFTY are be hosting this event and they have put up a purse of $3000 to win in the Late Model Division. So come on out, get an airbrush tattoos, have some fun and help support the great event.

Team 51 Fifty will be showcasing both of the Race for Autismcars. Owner Carlos Vieira will be piloting one of the cars and special guest driver Mike David from Modesto will drive the other. Mike David, is the 2007 Grand National West Champion, so it proves to be worth your time.

Birthday Party Face Painting Fun

So hotter than a devil's dungeon High Jinks Extreme Face Art was again out at the Marysville Peach Festival for the 7th year face painting and painting airbrush tattoos. We missed the last two years and the first two years were involved in a non-vendor role. But hot is was! The heat as always is the huge downside to this event, the other downside is how much more like a plain "street fair" and less like a community street fair the event has evolved into. The city now organizes the event and the contact person is very nice but as the event is in the very hot summer and in Maryville in Yuba County located a bit out of the way, it is not a day trip destianation. The event really calls for a professional promoter. And cries for ambiance.

Marysville is a lovely historic community. It lacks playing on this rich history to build the downtown area and fill it with ambiance. I know it is easy to say and much harder to achieve, but I do, after living in this area for many years now, believe that D Street and the side streets in downtown Marysville could be so much more. And that the city could set the lead for the other historic cities and towns in Yuba County.

For us it was nice to have people in the community say they walked the length of the event looking for us. High Jinks airbrush tattoos had many people stop by and say hi, comment on out many new designs and love their tattoo. Thanks, we appreciate the loyalty.

We were asked why we were is such a hard to find location. We haven't done the event in two years and having signed up to do the even rather late we were placed at the end of the event. Sad we were not at least on the other side of the block so people with children could find High Jinks Extreme Face Art face painting. But who with small children wants to venture past the bar - again many loyal families did just that. One person asked me if the more you did the event did you get a to move up in to the festival. No, after having supported this event with airbrush tattoos and face painting for many years, loyality counted not.

Too the event had a new painter, she was placed in a spot High Jinks had been in for a few year, much closer to the children's area. Not really our ideal spot anyway as we like our prime location, as we do both small children and adults in and middle of the event area. So everyone can find us and enjoy High Jinks face and body art. Too the new painter, who has talent, had a big colorful display of pictures taken straight form books - so none of the face art she displayed and lead people to believe was hers, was not her work at all. Sad as a premier, ethical face painting artist I hate to see this. It is stealing.
And the face painting pictures she showed contained many painted faces done by friends of mine.

Now, folks know I don't usually work with pictures and of course her unethical display hurt my business, but I that's what happens when you work unjuried events. Certainly I do not paint my best work on the street in a booth where the heat at one point was read at 117• - yes 117 degrees of hot California sunshine! and it had actually started to cool off inside our booth at that point.

Oh well, maybe we'll be back next year - the jury is still out. Thanks to our neighbors, a lemonade vendor from Columbia, CA, the cool rasta vendor with fun bracelets - our tattoo artist bought several, and the mini donut makers - also a hit with our tattoo artist and no thanls to our neighbor who put his BBQ stand trash can next to our booth 24" for my face painting chair. The flies! and with the city having put us next to him we had a booth full of smoke several times a day and we got to listen to his noisy generator. A delightful spot to paint people, really not well thought out by the city, certainly no consideration for the children, let again a long tome vendor. Oh well like we said - loyalty has not merit at this event, and we talked with many other vendors to gage the experince and the local vendors feel hard pressed to support this event. But the local vendors feel a commitment in supporting a fun event for the people who live in the yuba-sutter area.

For us that is it, it is 100% about coming out and talking and having fun with the people who live in the yuba-sutter community. We gave away free yo-yo balloons - not to those who got face paintig or airbrush tattoos by High Jinks Extreme Face Art - we gave those some, but we'd watch the crowd and jump out and had some balloons to that young family, or single mom or dad heading home with kids without that painted face, or with empty hands, no novelty saber wand, or bag of goodies. Wow, what a way to light up someone, people wher just so taken with this gesture. It was really fun. A really highlight for the High Jinks artists especially at the end of the night. The kids where just so cute and so polite in their thanks.

Yes, we are known for the occasional - ok sometime more than occasional free face paint and free airbrush tattoo. Festival Airbrush Face Painting Vendor High Jinks

When it rains it pours - we do only a few select festivals each year.
I love doing them and would love to do more but we are often so busy with booked gigs.
This week we have had six festival organizers call us about evens throughout northern California.
From musical festivlas to food festivals High Jinks Extreme Face Art is a great fesival vendor addition.
With High Jinks quality face painting, airbrush tattoos as well as glitter tattoos and henna - we dra a crowd. I think the largest crows coem to watch when we do airbrush face painting. It really a great addition as is is really durable face art - and kids seem to really want the art on their face. With hot summer and fall events High Jinks airbrush face painting is great.

Well it's got me lookingh around thinking hummmm we added some new artists and now after so many years maybe it's time to go back and do more festivals again. So I'm check a few out, maybe we'll see you there.

High Jinks Airbrush Tattoos Aren't Just For Kids Anymore

Of course High Jinks knows temporary airbrush tattoos have never been just for kids, we have always had adults lining up right there with the kids! This season of Safe and Sober Grad Nights was no exception. After all the teens have gotten tattoos, after we have already run over our time....... we spray the chaparones with airbrush tattoos. And that is really a fun time!

Of course there are always the guys getting superman, and the women who get delicate hearts or hibiscus flowers, and those who laugh and get a lower back design...... but at Biggs High School the moms were a blast and a half with a dozen or more all getting the same design. They promised me a picture and I hope to see one and post it here. What a fun group.

I super huge thank you to all the really wonderful parents. So many were just great to us, going above and beyond in helping us secure contracts and smoothing out minor glitches. Thanks to all these parents who worked so hard in bringing many great services to the students in the northern California Sacramento region. Two great acts we met would be a great add to any event or grad night -

Caricature artist Mike Tofanelli out of Elk Grove - great work and a super fun idea Red Cheese Photo Booths. Their VP of Sales, Gregg Posner was just so nice. Everyone loved these memory making activities.

Face Painting at Strawberry Music Festival

Ok the sums up Thursday and Friday at Spring 2010 Strawberry!
A bit rain and cold we didn't even open on Thursday and opened half day on Friday closed as I was just cold, and glad too because it did rain later. Still I could hear the crowd out enjoying the music. In fact Friday morning we awoke to slushy snow! And yet on my way back to my camp Friday afternoon I passed some kids headed to the lake for a swim!

Saturday and Sunday made for great, cool but yet warm weather. Really quite nice and thank goodness because it really was quite muddy. But the Strawberry staff cleared everything up nicely to make for a good time.

We don't make $ at Strawberry - what we get as a reward is painting.... of course the kids from 3 and up... but it is the adults. I love love love painting the 20's set. Camp Major Malfunction made for a fun day with so many of them getting painted. And the greatest is to look up and see a woman over 60 standing with the kids waiting for face art. Thank You.

Most sweet were my two little friends, sister pictured from last year. Who as small as they are went out and made their own money so they could be face painted by me at Strawberry. I can not even explain how wonderful that make me feel.

I've posted some pictures below - I forgot my camera on Saturday and Sunday morning! so these are from Sunday afternoon and some of my favorite regulars are MIA! Sad.

And yes we airbrushed up a storm too.

Face Painting for Yuba City School Fesitvals

Today Sweet Loretta was out painting in Yuba City face painting for St. Isidores Catholic School's Spring Festival. Fun to see many children that I have painted since they were toddlers now so tall. Yes they grow up fast. That for the parents for asking me to come out, a bit on the windy side but a very nice day painting faces.

Well it seems I continue to blog on our other company blog but I hope to catch up as the season is heating up - and Sacramento heats up fast! In two weeks High Jinks Extreme Face Art will be heading to Strawberry Music Festival, this year we will painting and airbrush for the crowd who will come to enjoy Patty Loveless and Lyle Lovett. We are often either just cruising there or painting in a made rush. I do think this year folks will be very happy with many new designs and some airbrush designs of strawberries and music Here are a few pictures of face art, and we plan to really kick up the level of our work - we only charge $5 a face but I think we'll be bringing out our $15 faces and tattoos.

In the next few weeks we will be painting out and around Placer County in roseville, lincoln, granite bay, stanford ranch, rocklin, loomis and auburn - whew! Look to for us in Yuba and Sutter counties - yuba city, sutter, plumas lake, olivehurst, beale air force base, marysville and wheatland.

The Perfect Rainy Day Party

We paint faces making any cold weather or rainy day party a huge success.

Currently we are busy painting our way thru 40 faces - our most popular 40 faces to be photographed and displayed in out festival and corporate booths. We have been asked to submit our application for the 2010 Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee as their official face painters and that inspired us to get busy photographing all our basic faces.

We are also preparing for the Face And Body Art Convention to be held this year in Las Vegas. We expect to see face and body art friends from all around the world as they gather to learn and creat new face art. We'll post pictures soon.

Strawberry Music Festival

Well our second time to the infamous Strawberry Music Festival and whew! We painted and airbrushed four days with some pretty long hours - I can certainly say we were really beat by the end of each day. We had a great time and are enjoying making new friendships and looking forward to many more festivals.

What can I tell you about Strawberry? I am really taken with some of our young friends, some who came to be painted each day. Ella, a good friend instantly - she's beautiful and an old soul I am sure. So sorry I was too busy breaking down our booth to hear her play her fiddle at Monday morning breakfast. I am sure we'll hear playing on the main stage one day. Sophia and Marina sweet faces I love to paint. These two are such good sisters, and well - thank you, thank you very much to their dad who let me paint him like the 1970's Elvis. It was great to paint many repeat children and adults from last year and a blessing to have many who came each day - their names will be etched in my brain after next May's event. Thank you to Antonie's for our trade of face painting for crepes - yum! What a sweet child they allowed us to paint. And to little E who, painted like the Hulk made each days aching muscles worth it.

I didn't get the best pictures - let my camera at camp on Saturday but was way too buzy to take a picture anyhoo. OK so next year I hope you'll be able to see some great pics taken by Bob, Strawberry regular pancake-maker and photographer - who just maybe will be painted too.

Faerieworlds 2009 - hot and colorful

I have had such a busy summer. In a very hot July I was painting at Faerieworlds outside Eugene Oregon with my friend Fire Pixie. She is an amazing entertainer and face painting artist. See her skills and work at www.firepixie.com

Below Fire Pixie is trying out her new hoola hoop. Scroll Down to see we painted a good many butterflies and fairy faces, we also painted a few bodies. It was hot, an bit sticky but the people were great and the costumes wonderful.

The Strawberry Way

Well painting at Strawberry Music Fesitval was a blast. The profits were low - hey we painted $5 faces! But the friendly energy was high and the music great, food was wonderful and..well,some things make it all worthwhile.

We had a good time and look forward to a return run labor day weekend 2009.

Face And Body Art Convention

I just returned late last night from FABAC a gathering of face and body artists in Orlando. And whew! I am tired and inspired.

I taught three great classes, gots loads of hugs, laughed so hard, and am filled with lots in inspiration for new ideas and designs.

This year I am adding a few new coors to my range - a shimmer white and a shimmery orange - they are so pretty the girls with love them and a very cool seafoam green, and some new neons.

I also will have a new whole series line of designs based on Trains, Plans and Automobiles - so fun transportation ideas - I've got designs to please the boys.

Can't wait to paint up 2009.

A Neon New Year's Eve

As usual I failed to take a picture and too bad because this was a fun photo just waiting to be made. Last night I painted up the wait staff at an upscale steakhouse in a local entertainment destination for a private party. This large and young staff all donned neon colored wigs and I painted eye designs in bright colors to match. Too fun to see them all together in those wild wigs all painted up.

Cheering for Face Painting

This weekend I painted a fun face for Steve.
Steve's daughter is in a competitive cheer group and he has been painting his face for their events.
This weekend they went on to championships in Sacramento and she told him it was time to kick it up a notch, so Steve called me. He drove out from to my place with his mother and another young daughter and we kicked it up a notch.
Steve rocked a cool blue skull face with the cheer squad's company name "One" his forehead.
He reported that all the cheer squad members from the competitive teams wanted a picture with him, he had a blast kicking it up for his little girl. Cheers to Steve a #1 Dad.

So this week the kids are all out of school for Thanksgiving.
With a dozen middles-schoolers in and oout of the house you's thinks I'd get a lot of faces to paint - welllllllll..........
It takes just one painted face to get them all wanting to hop in my magical chair and be transformed.
So after a day of painting and neglecting the holiday baking we have a house full of fun painted faces.
And that makes for an instant party - that is until they all decide it's way more fun to hang out at the park with their cool face art 'cause it draws alot of attention. Too fun!

Halloween Happenings

As you can see by the face art posted just before Halloween, fun but creepy face paintings are the rage. This Halloween, as with each Halloween I book private face art clients until 4 pm. Why only 4 pm when so many people want to be painted - it is Halloween after all and that mean pleanty of faces in my home looking for gore.

Halloween makeup keeps me busy this year were a traditional franskstein, about seven skull faces, sweet fairies and a wild witch or two. It was a great deal of fun - complete with sugar over load. And as I sadly pack away the fake broken glass shards, fake blood, and wild eyelashes..........I can't wait to pull them out again next October.

More and more these days when painting faces I find the adults are no longer hanging back and waiting for the kids to all be painted. These days they are right there in line holding their turn to be painted. Because silly kids face painting's not just for kids anymore.

Face painting has grown over the last 6 years to become a whole new art medium. Extreme Face Art was the second company in the USA to use the phrase Face Art. As one who helped coin the term I am privileged to share with and learn with so many talented artists creating amazing works of art in face painting throughout the world.
